Abstract
To prolong membrane’s lifetime and improve its removal performances in the water treatment process, the microfiltration feed has to be pretreated by coagulation-flocculation. The successful coagulation-flocculation and finally the membrane’s performance are strongly influenced by time of coagulant slow mixing. In this research, the time of this slow mixing is varied from 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 minutes. The feed water pH is 7,3, with Total Dissolved Solid (TDS) of 524-540 mg/L and Chemical Oxygen Demandn (COD) of 45-54 mg/L. The coagulant that is used is 50 ppm dosage of Aluminum Sulphate. Coagulation effectivity and microfiltration membrane performances increase with increasing time of slow mixing until the optimum time is reached. The optimum time resulted from this research is 10
